What is the meaning of “transferring a domain name”?

All rights and obligations derived from the domain name’s registration are transferred to the transferee by mutual consent.

What is the condition to transfer a domain name?

HKDNR allows domain name transfer under certain circumstances:

  • Domain names upgraded to/registered under the latest HKDNR Registration Agreement;
  • Applicants must present the evidence of mutual consent between the Transferor and Transferee when applying for domain name transfer.
How can I apply for a domain name transfer?

What is the fee for domain name transfer?

All transfer applications will incur a HK$500 Transfer Fee.
The Registration Fee for the Domain Name being transferred must be paid in addition to the Transfer Fee. The Transferee may choose to pay the Registration Fee for one year or multiple years. For the fee schedule which sets out the Registration Fees for each type of Domain Name, please CLICK here.

What kind of documents should be submitted to HKDNR?

The required document(s) are:

For organizational domain names (Case 1):
If both Current Registrant (transferor) and New Registrant (transferee) CAN prove their HK presence: Prepare the Transfer Application Letter duly signed by both transferor and transferee with the endorsement of both company chops, and then send in the completed application letter along with a copy of the required Document(s) of both transferor and transferee. For Individual domain names (Case 2):
Prepare the “.idv.hk” Transfer Application Letter duly signed by both transferor and transferee, and then send in the completed application letter along with a copy of the valid HKID card of both parties. For transferor and transferee aged between 11-18, please also send in your parents/guardians’ duly signed HKID card copies and relationship certificates. How long does the transfer process take?

The transfer will be completed within 3 working days after receiving all required documents with all of them passed our verification process.

How can I transfer a domain name’s ownership from the old company to the new company?

If the current registrant has ceased the business, the domain name has to be transferred to a new company by special transfer application. For more details, please read “Exception to Transfers“.

Only directors of the company can sign the transfer letter? Can someone in the management grade sign it?

The transfer letter requires a director who is listed in the list of directors registered at Companies Registry to sign.
