Q1: Who can make the deletion?

A: The following parties can perform deletion of the domain name:

  • Domain name holder
  • Authorized parties by the domain name holder
  • Domain name registry (HKDNR)

Q2: How can I make deletion?

A: Please go to our website and click ‘Delete Domain Name‘, enter the domain name and password, and then follow the online instructions to complete the procedures.

Q3: What is the fee for the request?

A: It is free of charge.

Q4: What kind of document should be submitted for deletion?

A:No document is needed except special request by HKDNR.

Q5: Can anyone object to the deletion?

A: Only the domain name owner can object the deletion by sending an email request to us at enquiry@hkdnr.hk for investigation.

Q6: How long does the deletion process take?

A: You can expect it will be completed within SEVEN (7) calendar days after sending in the application.

Q7: How do I know whether the deletion is completed?

A: You will receive an email notification advising the effective date.

Q8: When will the deleted domain name be released to public for registration again?

A: All deleted domain names will have a black out period of around two months after the effective date of the deletion.

Q9: I have registered a domain name under the Old Contract Agreement, what will happen if it is not currently in use with valid name service?

A: For the domain names registered under the Old Agreement, HKDNR reserves the right to recover any inactive cases registered but are on hold for more than NINETY (90) days due to lacking valid name service. Therefore, if your domain name is on hold with invalid name server details, we shall recover your domain name.

Q10: What should I do if I want to re-activate my domain name?

A: To re-activate your domain name, you should immediately provide valid name server details by submitting an application on “Modify Name Servers”, which could be done either by yourself on our website at https://www.hkdnr.hk/ or your authorized service agent.

Q11: How long will the domain be made available for registration again after deletion?

A: After the domain is deleted or when it is not renewed, it will enter a 60-day Blackout Period. During that period the domain is neither resolvable nor available for registration. Under normal circumstances, the domain will be open for registration again right after the Blackout Period.
